Secret veggie milkshake for kids

This milk shake is naturally sweetened, creamy, and packed with a secret vegetable – but your kids will never guess!

If you’re looking for a way to make your kid’s afternoon, but also feel good about what treat you’re giving them, then give this recipe a try!

My kids LOVE it, and we call it a “milkshake”. You can call it a creamy smoothie, or make up another name for it! Whatever you call it, your kids will thank you for making it.

secret veggie milkshake for kids

What’s in this secret veggie milkshake?

The secret ingredient in this smoothie is… frozen riced cauliflower. But I promise you CAN’T TASTE IT. There’s not just a little bit either – in each serving there’s a half a cup of packed cauliflower! I’d heard about putting cauliflower in smoothies, but hadn’t really been excited about trying it – haha! But I was reminded by a friend on my Instagram stories to try it…and I am so happy I did!

Also – frozen riced cauliflower is super affordable! I usually pick up a bunch in the frozen aisle when I’m at the bulk food store. We add it to ground meat and lots of other dishes! It’s an easy way to add some vegetables into your family’s diet

What about the fat?

Now a little background…my son is skinny. As in, his little hip bones poke out of his back when he bends down. So I try to add healthy fats into his diet whenever I can! But not only to “put some more meat on his bones”, but also because fat is so crucial for kids’ developing brains.

In this recipe, I added in fats in the way of cashews, avocado, and whipping cream. You can totally leave out the whipping cream, and you could just add a little more milk instead.

If you’re looking to add a little more fat into your diet, this could totally be a smoothie dessert for you! I personally don’t eat it because it’s a little too caloric for me, but I am so happy to give it to my kids.

Secret vegetable milkshake

This milk shake is naturally sweetened, creamy, and packed with a secret vegetable – but your kids will never guess!

Course Dessert, Drinks, Snack
Servings 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen riced cauliflower
  • 1/2 avocado (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 medium banana (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream (optional)
  • 1/3 cup cashews (unsalted)
  • 2-3 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in the blender

  2. Blend on high in a blender for 1-2 minutes until completely liquified & creamy

Recipe Notes

Adjust the maple syrup based on how ripe your banana is.  The riper the banana, the sweeter it is, and the less maple syrup you will have to use.

The heavy whipping cream is optional, but adds some extra delicious creaminess if you have it on hand!
