The reason for Real Food for Real Families

I feel like I can finally share this secret I’ve been keeping! While I’ve been working on my other website, I’ve been adding content to this blog when I had time. Today’s the day those two worlds finally come together!

Why this all started:

I hesitated sharing my struggle with Gestational Diabetes when I was pregnant with Heidi. I shared on my Instagram stories, and had such an outpouring of support. My life quickly became consumed with healthy eating, and figuring out how to adapt our family’s diet to my strict GD diet.

I asked people if they’d be interested in hearing what we were going to do to eat healthier whole foods as a young family, and the answer was a resounding YES.

I started sharing my dinners every night, and THEY became the stories that got the most engagement and responses. Not the home decor tips, decorating advice, or before and afters. The simple and healthy dinner recipes I shared every night! My mind was spinning…

A few weeks before I had Heidi, I came up with the Real Food for Real Families logo, bought the domain name, and had a blank slate to start with.

And then I had my baby…

I had Heidi in June and she’s just the sweetest. As we adjusted back into life as a family of 3 kids 5 and under, life was (and is) a little bit crazy. I still had these thoughts of filling up that food blog, but my time was so limited.

Slowly but surely, I’ve been able to add some recipes to the site.

IT’S NOT WHERE I WANT IT TO BE, but if I waited until it was there…it would be a MUCH longer wait.

Why this is important

Even after I wasn’t sharing dinner recipes on my stories as often…I still got so many messages about healthy living, kids struggling to eat vegetables, how to afford healthy food for your family, etc.

I don’t have all the answers, but I’m trying to figure out how to do it alongside you.

I believe that food has a HUGE impact on our daily lives. I believe food has the power to heal so many of our ailments. I also believe that medicine has a place in our lives, but that we should explore dietary changes before we seek long-term medical interventions.

Our little kids bodies are going through so much change and development at such a rapid pace, and we have the power to give them the best fuel for their brains and bodies to grow!

What this is not

This is not a place where you will find super complicated recipes with ingredients that you’ve never heard of.

This is not a place where the latest trends in cooking will be followed.

This is not a website that will win awards for food photography (I have a LOT to learn in this department – bear with me!)

But this IS a place where I will share realistic weeknight dinners for your family, snack ideas that everyone will love, and ideas for how to make the foods you serve your family a little less processed.

A huge THANK YOU

If you’ve made it to the end of this…THANK YOU. You’re the best, and I’m so happy you’re here!
